Automated Liquid Handling System for Genomics including Next Generation Sequencing, NGS Library Preparation, Microarray spotting, and more.
VERSA automated Solid Phase Extraction systems (also known as automated SPE systems) fully automate SPE workflows from cartridge conditioning to sample derivatization. With the combination of the ReagentDrop™ dispenser, Heater-Shaker, Gripper, and Nitrogen Dryer, VERSA automated solid phase extraction (SPE) systems act to produce contamination-free sample pre-processing and trace analyte enrichment before performing sample analysis by a chromatography-based platform (HPLC, GCMS, HPLC-MS, etc).
The VERSA line of automated SPE systems are highly scalable for different throughputs and budgets. From the compact VERSA 10 to the highly customizable VERSA 1100, they can boost productivity in applications ranging from forensics, environmental samples, pharmaceutical compound analysis (ADME), metabolomics, and food safety.
Dr. Thiangthum and Dr. Tanunkat from Bureau of Drug and Narcotic of Thailand use the VERSA 1100 automated Solid Phase Extraction system to quantify amphetamine and methamphetamine in drug users. They test more than 100,000 urine samples with VERSA automated SPE workstation each year.

1, 3, 6 mL Cartridges & 96 SPE Cartridge Plates
moves cartridge block and nitrogen dryer for on-deck washing, elution, drying, and derivatization
allows efficient sample pre-processing and derivatization, streamlines complete automated SPE workflow
ensures samples and reagents flow through cartridges efficiently
enables on-deck sample drying/concentration prior to reconstitution/derivatization
cools reagents for derivatization
ensures samples and reagents flow through cartridges efficiently
dispenses reagents from off-deck reservoirs and eliminates tip usage – prevents dripping of volatile solvents
works with the Gripper to automate conditioning, loading, washing, eluting, and fraction collecting steps

Solid phase extraction (SPE) is a technique for sample preparation using solid adsorbent contained in either a cartridge (column), a disk or a plate (for automated SPE only). Manual workflow of SPE can be time-consuming and prone to human-errors, while VERSA Automated Solid Phase Extraction (SPE) workstations fully automate SPE workflow from sample preparation and cartridge conditioning to sample derivatization on a single deck through the use of innovative, flexible modules. The combination of a Shaker-Heater, Nitrogen Dryer, and Gripper enables a complete walk-away solution for any SPE protocol including reconstitution of dried samples.
SPE is mainly used to prepare samples for analyzing on Mass Spectrometry platform or chromatography-based platform (HPLC, GCMS, HPLC-MS, etc.) with a range of applications from metabolomics, forensics, environmental samples, pharmaceutical compound analysis (ADME), and food safety;
VERSA is compatible with 1 mL, 3 mL, and 6 mL cartridges, in addition to 96-well SPE cartridge plates.
VERSA is equipped with either a 4 or 8 channel disposable tip syringe pipettor with single channel functionality, providing increased versatility and preventing cross-contamination.
Yes, the VERSA automated SPE workstation is capable of performing automated Liquid-Liquid Extraction on the same workstation. VERSA is highly scalable for different applications, throughputs, and budgets.
Yes, the VERSA Automated Solid Phase Extraction (SPE) workstation is equipped with a nitrogen dryer block that can be used for solvent evaporation and sample concentration after collection. Reconstitution in the organic or aqueous solvent of your choice can be easily conducted with the use of the ReagentDrop.
a. For ReagentDrop – most organic solvents are compatible (tubing is PTFE, check here for compatibility https://www.coleparmer.com/chemical-resistance) – avoid concentrated aqueous solutions (salting out could clog the tubing) and concentrated acids or bases (can degrade metal components)
b. For pipetting and solutions on deck – avoid very volatile solvents (instead, have them on the RD) and any concentrated acids or bases (fumes can degrade instrument components).
We can offer a steel-pin system (4 or 8-channel, up to 1000 uL) system for your applications.
