How VERSA 10 and 1100 helps to automate our COVID-19 assay

Please tell us a little bit about yourself, your background, and the organization you are working with.

I am the laboratory manager for a rapidly growing molecular diagnostics company, Integrity Sciences. Over the last year we have added several new assays, more than doubled our personnel, and our sample volume has increased by roughly 4000 percent.

What project are you working on or have previously worked on with our instrument?

Our two Versa 10s as well as our two Versa 1100s have primarily been used to automate our COVID-19 assay. We are currently processing between 1,000 and 1,500 samples a day using the Versa system and have the capacity for even more. With the flexibility of these instruments, including the changeable deck layout and user-friendly software, I have no doubt that we will be automating other future protocols on these instruments as well.

What differences have you seen in your routine at the lab after the implementation of one of our instruments?

The hands-free automation on these instruments has drastically increased our throughput while lowering report turn-around-times. We also see less contamination and less failed runs caused by human error, which has saved us on reagents and consumables.

How did our service/engineer team assist you when support is needed?

Damon and Leo have been beyond helpful in this automation process. When I was still new to the instrument and software, Leo “held my hand” through every step of the learning process and is still happy to hop on a call to assist when I run into any issue. Damon is the most personable service engineer I have ever met and made the maintenance process not only quick and easy, but delightful. One thing that seems to be a recurring theme throughout the entirety of Aurora Biomed is that every team member is both highly competent as well as genuinely happy to help out their customers, which is often hard to come by and very much appreciated by my team and me.
